If you think your vocal chords can strike the right notes, then B.A. (Hons.) Music (Hindustani/Carnatic) is an apt course to pursue. Department of Music, Faculty of Music and Fine Arts offer an undergraduate course in Hindustani and Carnatic music.
As it is a purely talent based course, the admissions are done on the basis of an entrance exam which is all about the practical knowledge of different ragas. There is no written exam or emphasis on cut-offs for this course.
How to apply
Forms are available only at the Faculty of Fine Music and Fine Arts, Shankar Lall Hall. ICR forms are not accepted for applying to this course.
The course is divided into two parts, theory and practical. The syllabus for Hindustani and Carnatic music is different, but some subjects in first year are similar. The theoretical part includes Theory of Musicology and Indian music, but emphasis is given on practical knowledge of different ragas.
Most students choose to go for higher studies and pursue research in the same discipline. Other options are working as music teacher.
