The water crisis in the city has been aggravating with Haryana turning down Delhi’s request to provide additional water. Dikshit said a solution to the Munak canal dispute with Haryana would be resolved soon.
On Monday, Delhi chief secretary PK Tripathi asked his Haryana counterpart PK Chaudhery to release more water to Delhi, but the request was turned down.
"We should get the return on our investment. We need water and I will go to the Prime Minister for a solution to the issue," said Dikshit when asked about Haryana's refusal to supply additional water to Delhi.
Munak canal was constructed by Haryana with financial assistance of around R400 crore given by Delhi on the condition that Delhi get 80 MGD water from it. However, Haryana refused to supply water to the city. As both sides failed to settle the dispute, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh set up a Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by the home minister.
The current average demand of water in the city is around 1,100 mgd and currently Delhi Jal Board (DJB) supplies 835 MGD water across the city.
