Just five days after the Centre decided to raise the allocation of natural gas from domestic fields to city gas entities, CNG prices have been slashed by Rs 14.90 per kilo in the Capital.

The price of compressed natural gas (CNG) has reduced by Rs 16.55 per kilo in the NCR regions Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad, while prices of cooking gas supplied to kitchens have been slashed by Rs 5, following the reduction announcement by Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL).

With the revised prices in place, CNG now costs Rs 35.20 per kilo in Delhi and Rs 40.15 per kilo in NCR.

For domestic PNG consumers, IGL has not only announced a reduction in prices, but also a corresponding 20% increase in quantity of gas in the lower price slab — which earlier stood at a consumption level of up to 30 standard cubic meter (scm) and now stands at 36 scm.

At the same time, for the higher consumption slab exceeding 36 scm, the applicable rate in Delhi would be Rs 47 per scm, which was earlier Rs 52 per scm.

Oil minister M Veerappa Moily had, on Monday, announced that the allocation of natural gas to the city be raised from the present 80% to 100%.

“Subsequent to the increase in our domestic gas allocation to meet the full requirement for CNG and domestic PNG by the government, IGL has decided to pass on the entire benefit to the consumers by reducing the consumer prices,” said Narendra Kumar, managing director, IGL.
