Lodging a complaint against an official of the Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) proved costly for an elderly couple in the city.

Suresh Gulyani and his wife Usha said they have already paid Rs 1.5 lakh fine imposed by the authority for violation of construction norms. But, the wait for the completion certificate of their house in Sector 9-A is far from over.

The couple had lodged a complaint against a junior engineer of Huda, alleging him of misappropriating Rs 40,000, which was paid as part of the R1.5 lakh fine imposed by the authority.

According to Huda, a retired civil judge has been probing the matter since August 23, when the chargesheet was filed.

“A retired civil judge is conducting an inquiry and once he submits the report, appropriate action will be taken against the tainted official,” said DPS Nagal, chief administrator of Huda.

According to the chargesheet, the junior engineer misappropriated the bank draft of Rs 40,000 given by Gulyani and registered it for clearing the completion certificate of another plot in Sector 4.
