The probe into the sexual abuse at Arya Orphanage has revealed that had authorities paid heed to the complaint of a 12-year-old victim’s mother, they could have prevented the death of an 11-year-old girl who was repeatedly raped by a fellow inmate.

The complaint was made six months ago.

“Uma (name changed) approached the authorities but they didn’t take any action against the boy who sodomised her son. Later, the same boy raped the 11-year-old who eventually died (on December 24),” said a Delhi Police officer.

The case reached the Delhi high court Tuesday with acting chief justice AK Sikri converting an email he received on the subject into a PIL and listing it for hearing on Wednesday.
