Congress on Thursday sought to deflect the issue of price rise saying state governments also have a role in checking prices along with the central government.
Defending the Centre's role on the issue, party spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said, "Government at the Centre has taken its responsibility to contain price rise seriously. This is a matter which has to have cooperation from across the board."
She added that state governments have a responsibility to streamline Public Distribution System and take strict action against hoarding of essential commodities.
"The Central government is certainly taking all steps to control prices. It has taken several steps," she said when asked whether the party feels the government at the Centre has done enough to check prices.
