With Telengana becoming a political hot potato ahead of polls, Congress high command will make its stand clear on the ticklish issue amid pulls and pressures within the party.

"The Congress high command is going to come out with a policy statement on the Telengana issue. Let us wait," was the response of Chief Minister Y S Rajashekhara Reddy when asked about the Telengana issue.

Reddy, who has been summoned in New Delhi for talks on Sunday with the Central leadership, has been continuing discussions with senior leaders Pranab Mukherjee and Ahmad Patel.

Noting that Telengana was an important issue before the party, he has said, "the high command has said several times that it would take an appropriate decision at an appropriate time."

His discussions with central leaders came at a time when the Telengana issue has hotted up with a "grand alliance of Opposition parties" including the TDP, TRS and Left parties taking shape.

The main plank of TRS is formation of separate Telangana and the Chandrababu Naidu-led TDP, which was earlier opposed to it, has recently changed its stand.

Mukherjee is also the head of the UPA Sub Committee which has been asked to go into the issue of smaller states including Telengana. The Committee has completed four years since it was constituted.

Andhra Pradesh is the only major state where the Congress is in power on its own. The Assembly election in the state is scheduled along with the General elections.
