The spat between the BJP and Congress over Baba Ramdev continued on Tuesday. While BJP leader Arun Jaitley dubbing the Prime Minister’s statement on the police action “more than unfortunate”, the Congress called Ramdev a ‘mask’ for the RSS and BJP.
The Congress also took a dig at senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj’s dance at Rajghat during the party’s dharna, with Congress leader Digvijaya Singh calling the BJP a party of dancers (nachaiyya). Swaraj reacted by saying that the internet was full of top Congress’ leaders’ dance clippings.
Jaitley dubbed the government as one of contradictions that had two parallel lines on the strategy to deal with Ramdev’s fast — one being the finance minister’s line of political negotiation and the other the home minister’s line of using the police force. He added the PM was throughout “invisible”, with none knowing what his line was.
“None is prepared to say this is the Gandhis’ fault. Gandhis never commit mistakes; they are either misled or unaware. This is government of contradictions. The government’s leadership has office but no authority, and there is another leadership that has power but no accountability,” Jaitley said.
Jaitley also dubbed the PM statement that the police action was unfortunate but unavoidable: “The Prime Minister’s statement is more than unfortunate.”
“I never before heard of teargas being used on people in a closed enclosure, adding that the action was the “worst form of policing” requiring action against those who took the decision,” he added.
