The Congress on Wednesday attacked the BJP for holding a rally against price rise, saying the 11 states ruled by the party had also failed to control prices of essential commodities

The Congress on Wednesday attacked the BJP for holding a rally against price rise, saying the 11 states ruled by the party had also failed to control prices of essential commodities.

“The Opposition has a right to oppose but not to mislead the people. Is controlling prices only the Centre’s responsibility? The state governments have no role? Who is supposed to run the public distribution system and act against hoarders and black-marketers?” asked Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari.

He said the past year had been difficult for India because of poor monsoon and drought.

“But the UPA government still managed to handle the economic situation well. The BJP should not politicise such sensitive issues.”
