As part of their arrangements for ensuring safe new year celebrations, the Delhi Traffic Police has banned all vehicles from entering Connaught Place on Wednesday, after 7.30 p.m.
In other parts, where there are no traffic restrictions, the traffic police would be on prowl with alco-metres for those who take to wheels after drinking and those who drive dangerously.
Two magistrates would be stationed at the court near Parliament Street police station. The department has also tied up with government hospitals for carrying out medical tests/blood alcohol level tests.
The entire fleet of the Delhi Police and the traffic police would be on road on the New Year eve, traffic police chief S.N. Shrivastava said. “People are advised to avoid Connaught Place area and use alternative routes to go beyond,” he told a media conference.
No vehicle would be allowed to proceed towards Connaught Place beyond Mandi House roundabout, Bengali Market, north end of Ranjit Singh Flyover, Minto Road-Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg crossing, Chelmsford road near Munje Chowk and Kasturba Gandhi Marg-Firozshah Road crossing.
Limited parking would be available near CP. Motorists can also park their vehicles on all major radial roads leading to outer circle. Residents and those with valid party bookings/invitations within the restricted area would be allowed entry after due verification, the officer added.
