A Delhi police constable, posted at Jamia Nagar police station, has been arrested for allegedly raping a Class 8 student whom he had befriended some days ago in south Delhi's Pul Prahladpur.
According to police, the matter came to light on Saturday after the 15-year-old girl, along with her parents, approached the Pul Prahladpur police station and lodged a complaint against constable Insaaf Khan. Khan was arrested from Jamia Nagar police station itself after a medical examination of the victim confirmed rape.
A senior district police officer said Khan, who hails from Bihar, has been sent to judicial custody after being placed under suspension. A departmental action has also been initiated against Khan, who lives in a rented accommodation in Delhi.
The girl, the senior officer said, in her complaint told the police that Khan raped her at his friend's flat in Pul Prahladpur on Friday. Khan had allegedly befriended the girl in the local market some days ago.
"The girl told us that Khan had asked her to meet him, telling her that he wants to talk about something. Since she was familiar with him she went to see him. He later took her to his friend's flat where he assaulted her. The girl then went home after the accused warned her not to reveal the incident to anyone," said the officer.
After reaching her house, the victim narrated the entire story to her mother, who informed her husband about it. "On the basis of complaint and medical examination report, a case was registered and Khan was arrested," the officer added.
