Throwing construction and demolition waste along with garbage in a normal bin may just invite trouble. The MCD has decided to tighten its noose on people who dump construction waste just about everywhere but at the designated places.
Currently, the MCD has 168 designated places across the city where people can dump the construction and demolition waste. But many people discreetly use local garbage dumps at night.People caught dumping construction waste elsewhere will have to pay for transporting it from the dumped place to the designated location.
Municipal commissioner KS Mehra has directed MCD officials to get cracking under the anti-littering act and take penal action against violators. The civic agency will also act on complaints from individuals.
Deputy commissioner of central zone Vikas Anand said action would be taken against drivers and owners of vehicles found dumping solid waste. "We will seek assistance from the transport department. We may recommend cancellation of the vehicle's registration," he said.
While the agency has not put up any list of such dumping sites on its website, councilors say people can contact them and get their construction waste transported by MCD trucks that take them to landfill sites.
Like in Kotla area, citizens can dump such waste at MCD store, A Block, Seva Nagar while in Naraina they can dump it at MCD store, H Block. The MCD has taken up the issue seriously after the opening of the construction and demolition waste recycling plant at Burari.
