A 56-year-old contractor was gunned down by two men after he slapped one of them for loitering around a park complex in south Delhi’s Munirka village along the Nelson Mandela Marg on Thursday midnight.
Trilok Singh Tokas, a former Central Reserve Police Force officer, was killed at the Baba Ganganath Sports Complex, barely 500m from the Vasant Vihar police station, at 12.05am.
The two assailants, who eyewitnesses said looked to be in the their early 20s, were sitting in the play area of the swimming-cum-park complex at 11.30pm. “Tokas, pointing out how late it was, asked them to leave,” said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (south).
Tokas was a maintenance contractor with the park, providing guards and cleaning staff.
The duo apologised and were about to leave when Tokas, who the eyewitnesses claimed looked angry, got into an argument with them. Tokas then slapped one of the men.
Half-an-hour later, the duo — brandishing locally-made pistols — returned with another man. They marched to the guards and asked one of them to call “the man who slaps people”.
“Tokas stepped out and was shot five times,” Sharma said. No arrests have been made.
