There is good news for 20 markets under the jurisdiction of the North Delhi Municipal Corporation as it announced parking and conversion charges relief for them on Thursday.

Shopowners of these markets, which were in existence before 1962 according to the Master Plan Delhi 2021, will not have to pay conversion and parking fees.

The markets are Jama Masjid, Chitli Kabbar, Bazar Sitaram, Ajmeri Gate, Chandni Chowk, Fatehpuri, Lajpat Rai Market, Kashmiri Gate, Mori Gate, Malka Ganj, Sabzi Mandi, Bara Hindu Rao and Sadar Bazar among others. North mayor Azad Singh, standing committee chairman Ram Kishan Singhal and leader of the House Mahender Nagpal made this announcement in a joint press conference organised at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukharji Civic Centre on Thursday.

Earlier, every year the traders had to submit proof they were running the trade prior to 1962. Traders welcomed the move. Sanjay Bhargava, general secretary of the Chandni Chowk Sarv Vypar Mandal, said they have been appealing to the corporation for years for exemption.
