A Delhi Police constable has been arrested for murdering a colleague in Sadar Bazaar area of north Delhi on Monday. The accused decided to kill the policewoman as she was threatening him with dire consequences if he married anyone else.
The body of Constable Amarjeet Kaur (26), who was posted with the Civil Lines police station as a "cook", was discovered by one of her neighbours on Saturday afternoon. She had been strangled to death by her dupatta. She was living in Police Colony, Sadar Bazaar.
The victim was married and had filed a case of dowry harassment against her husband. Her two sons, aged five and seven years, were away at their maternal grandparents house in Punjab.
The accused Ved Prakash (28) was posted with the Special Branch of Delhi Police and had befriended the victim about two years ago. "The couple had done their training together and got intimate when she was separated from her husband. He often visited at her house," said a senior police officer. Police said that the accused had recently got engaged and the victim was threatening to expose him if he married anyone else.
