A Rajasthan police constable deployed at the Canadian high commission in New Delhi allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle, the police said on Friday.

Mahender Singh, 25, who was posted a few days ago at the high commission, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in the chin late on Thursday.

He was rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. No suicide note has been recovered yet.

Singh hailed from Rajasthan's Sikar district and was married three years ago. He was survived by his wife and a two years old child, the police said. His body has been taken to the Lady Hardinge Hospital for autopsy.

"Initial investigation suggests that he was mentally depressed. We have registered a case, and are investigating. His family has been informed," said a police official.
