Two traffic policemen were injured when they tried to step in when some truckers and a biker were quarrelling in southeast Delhi on Friday.
The incident comes only a day after a truck driver allegedly attempted to run over a senior bureaucrat posted with the police.
Head constable Major Hussain and constable Sunil, who are posted in the Kalkaji circle of the traffic police, were patrolling the MB Road near Pul Prahladpur when around 10pm they decided to find out what had blocked the flow of traffic there.
"The area near the Institute of Child Development out gate was clogged because a biker was having a brawl with two others," Hussain later told the police.
According to his statement, he and Sunil had been deputed to patrol the stretch between the MB Road shooting range T-point and Badarpur between 3pm and 11pm on Wednesday, the day of the incident.
The head constable, with the help of two-three onlookers, intervened and was able to pull the men apart. The biker had an injury below one of his eyes.
Inquiries made later, police said, revealed that the altercation had apparently begun when a truck driver brushed against a biker and was challenged.
"One of the men we had just pulled apart from the biker, who later turned out to be the errant truck driver, started pelting us with stones along with three of his accomplices," Hussain said.
As they took cover, they radioed for help and were soon joined by a team from the local police station. Two of the attackers, Parmeshwar Yadav, 25, and Virender Yadav, 23, were arrested from the spot.
