Illegal and sophisticated guns from Munger in Bihar have again made their way to the Capital.

The Crime Branch of Delhi Police have arrested a carpenter who smuggled pistols from Munger in a specially modified diesel tank of an Ambassador car.

Most of the illegal guns circulating in Delhi are manufactured in Munger.

According to Delhi Police, there are over 50-illegal units in Munger that make everything from crude single-shot 12-bore and .315 bore country-made pistols to high-end .38 calibre and 9 millimetre pistols. Some of them even make sophisticated 7.62 mm AK-47s and Self Loading Rifles that are mainly sold to Maoists.

The police said Mohammed Qasif (23) from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh was apprehended from Rohini Sector-3 on Sunday.

"A pistol along with magazine is sold for around Rs 40,000. Five sophisticated 7.65 mm pistols, magazines and cartridges have been seized from him. He used to procure firearms from Munger and brought to Meerut and subsequently to Delhi for sale," said Ashok Chand, DCP (crime)Qasif told police that he has been a part of the racket for the past three years.

He was earlier arrested in 2010 for gun running and at that time four pistols had been recovered from him. On his release on bail he also started his operations in Delhi.
