Tension prevailed in Jamia Nagar's F-block area on Wednesday night following a protest outside the Jamia Nagar police station by local residents. They were enraged over a late night raid conducted by a team of South Delhi's Bangladeshi Cell.

Police had to fire a bullet in the air to disperse the mob that got agitated following a rumour that the police were picking up residents by projecting them as helpers of the perpetrator(s) of Monday's terror attack.

"Five officers have been suspended. The exercise had nothing to with the probe into the attack on the Israeli embassy official," said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south). Senior police officers said the team of Bangladeshi Cell had gone to apprehend eight Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the area.
