Two days after seven persons, including a 57-year-old sadhvi, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping and selling children, three girls were rescued by the Delhi Police on Thursday.
“We have rescued three more children who had recently been kidnapped by the gang. They are aged between four to seven years,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).
According to police, while two of the girls — aged four and seven — were rescued from Noida, another 8-year-old girl was saved from southeast Delhi’s Dakshinpuri area.
“Due to mounting pressure from the media and the fact that various Delhi Police teams have been scouring the NCR, the girls were handed over to the local police by the childless couples who had bought them from the gang,” said a senior Delhi Police officer from the investigation team.
Police said the three minor girls were kidnapped from various locations in southeast Delhi and sold to childless couples for R50,000 to R60,000. The gang had allegedly been kidnapping children from south and southeast Delhi, and selling them to childless couples since 2008.
“The deals had been struck keeping the customer’s socio-economic background and desperation in mind. While the rate was mostly around
R 50,000 per child, on several instances the gang had struck deals for double that amount,” the officer said.
