Delhi Police on Friday busted an inter-state gang of auto thieves, arresting a municipal councillor from Uttar Pradesh and two men hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.

The south district police arrested Zaffar Hussain Khan, municipal councillor from Moradabad, and Imtiyaz Ahmed and Firoz Khan from Jammu and Kashmir, and also recovered eight stolen vehicles from their possession. The vehicles included Maruti Esteem, two Santros, a Maruti 800 and Maruti van, and three motorcycles.

The police team laid a trap at the Press Enclave Road, Malviya Nagar, at 1.30 am and apprehended the three.

During the interrogation, it was revealed that Hussain often came to Delhi to receive the stolen vehicles from Nasir Kamal, who is an associate of Anil Chauhan, an infamous auto thief.

Hussain would then pass on these vehicles to Ahmed and Firoz, who would sell these vehicles in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
