A couple allegedly beat up an on-duty traffic policeman and tore his uniform on National Highway 2 at Old Faridabad on Sunday evening.

The incident occurred when the couple, identified as Prakash, and his wife Heena, were on their way to Delhi around 6.30pm. They were arrested and produced before a court on Monday, and were remanded to a day’s judicial custody. Police say the couple, travelling in a WagonR, jumped a red light.

When traffic policeman Amit Kumar stopped them and asked them for the car’s papers and the driving licence, the couple allegedly started hurling abuses, and beat him and tore his uniform. Other policeman rushed to the spot, and took the couple to Old Faridabad Police Station, where an FIR was filed.

SHO, Old Faridabad, Jitendra Danda said, “The couple was drunk and the medical examination confirmed this also.”
