In what appears to be a case of suicide, a couple was found dead in the bathroom of their house in East Delhi’s Ashok Nagar on Wednesday afternoon.

Initial investigations revealed that the couple had come to Delhi just two weeks ago and had shifted to B block in Ashok Nagar.

“The couple, identified as Bobby Sharma (29) and Anita Sharma (24), was originally from Aligarh and their families have been informed about the incident. Prima facie it appears to be a case of suicide as there are no signs of external injuries. But we are not ruling out any foul play and are
waiting for the family members to arrive and give more details,” a senior police officer said.

The police said that the door was locked from inside for the past two days and a neighbour made a PCR call after noticing a foul smell.

“According to a neighbour, the couple was last seen two days ago. They noticed a foul smell coming out of their room on Wednesday and then informed the police. The main door of the house was locked from inside and we had to break open the door,” the officer added. After entering the house, the police couldn’t find anything.

“We noticed that the smell was coming from the bathroom which was also locked. We broke the door of the bathroom and found the bodies lying next to each other,” the officer further said.

The police said there is very little chance of a foul play since both the doors — the main entrance and the bathroom door — were locked from inside.

“There were no signs of a forcible entry or ransacking. The bodies are highly decomposed and now only the post mortem examination will tell the cause of the deaths,” he added. No suicide note has been found with the bodies. The landlord of the flat is also being questioned.
