Financial crisis drove a couple in southeast Delhi to commit suicide after killing their 18-year-old disabled son, the police said on Monday.
Saminder Singh Arora (51) and his wife Mini (47) were residents of F-Block, DDA flats in Sarita Vihar area.
The couple’s bodies were found on the railway tracks in Okhla where they reportedly jumped in front of a train on Sunday.
Before leaving their house, the Aroras allegedly killed their son Karandeep who was partially blind and had some difficulty in walking. He was a student of Tamanna Special School in Vasant Vihar.
The police are yet to ascertain the exact cause of the boy’s death. Karandeep was reportedly suffering from dengue for a while. “We suspect Karandeep had been poisoned or smothered to death. We will know the exact reason only after the postmortem and viscera reports come in,” said Virender Singh Chahal, additional commissioner of police (southeast).
The incident came to light after the police control room received two calls.
“We got a call from the Railway Police Force that the bodies of a man and woman were found on the railway tracks,” added Chahal.
“Daljeet Singh Arora, Saminder's 80-year-old father, made the second call about his grandson lying dead in the house with his parents missing. We later got to know the two incidents were related.”
The police claimed the business owner had suffered heavy losses which forced him to take the extreme step. He was also under depression because of his son’s condition. Both Saminder and his wife left separate suicide notes. Mini, who had also not been keeping well for sometime, wrote in her note that she and her son had become a burden on Saminder and were committing suicide.
Investigations are on to probe other angles in the incident.
