In what could be music to the ears of its composers, the soundtrack developed for the opening and the closing ceremonies of the Commonwealth Games might be compiled as an album and released once the Games are over, giving the cash-strapped organisers another source of revenue.
Officials are preparing the broad contours of a plan, wherein the release could be timed around the Games closing ceremony.
The album could be in the retail market soon after, to cash in on the Games buzz, sources said.
There are enough tracks in the ceremonies to make a substantial album, said Bharat Bala, creative director of the Games ceremonies.
"There are around 12 tracks, which are being used in the ceremonies. We can turn them into an album," he said.
Music director A.R. Rahman has composed two out of the 12 songs — a theme song on the "Mahatma Gandhi segment" of the opening ceremony, apart from the Games anthem.
"Ranjit Barot, Hariharan and others have composed the rest of the tracks," Bala said.
The music video of the anthem is ready with the OC, which is yet to decide on a date next week for its release on music channels.
Among others, Saina Nehwal, Abinav Bindra and former ace athlete Milkha Singh feature in the video.
However, before that, the Games will finally have some positive presence on TV this weekend, as the official sports advertisement of the event is slotted to hit small screens in India and abroad.
Made by BBC World for the Organising Committee for free, the 20-second ad features Abhinav Bindra, Sania Nehwal and a whole lot of international athletes in various disciplines.
The organisers have tied up with the top two TV channels in every category, based on TRP numbers.
The organisers have plans to air the ads 15 times a day, a senior OC official said.
"The ad is composed of some 'pacey shots'. It is strictly about sports and talks about 'the world's biggest democracy hosting the Commonwealth Games'," the official added.
