Politician Amar Singh demanded immediate resignation of Shanti and Prashant Bhushan from the Lokpal drafting panel on Thursday, with the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) report indicating that contents of the controversial CD involving the senior Bhushan has not been tampered with.
Calling upon Anna Hazare to replace the Bhushans by individuals who are more credible, Singh remarked: “Dacoits cannot be recruited to catch thieves”.
While saying that Shanti Bhushan and he were “co-victims” of the CD episode, Singh emphasised that the contents of the senior Bhushan’s conversation “are actually dangerous”.
“I have said nothing objectionable in the CD, but Shanti Bhushan’s statements are highly damaging. This specific aspect must be inquired into”, Singh told reporters.
Accusing the Bhushans of maintaining double standards on morality, Singh said: “They are accusing everybody else of impropriety and corrupt practices, but start to run to Anna Hazare when disclosures on land deals involving them come to light”.
He quoted Justice Santosh Hegde - member of the Lokpal panel - as having said that the “Bhushans might not have been included in the panel, had revelations of their Noida farmland deals been known earlier”. “Anna Hazare’s integrity is beyond question, but people surrounding him are corrupt”, Singh said.
Singh refuted allegations that he had launched a campaign at the behest of the Congress with the aim to derail the ongoing probe in the 2G scam, which is being supervised by the SC.
