A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped by the medical assistant of a private hospital in Hapur, Ghaziabad on Thursday night, police said. Senior police officials have confirmed rape during victim’s medical-examination.
The incident occurred at Modi Woman’s Hospital at Hapur, when the victim’s five-year-old daughter was undergoing treatment for pneumonia, police officials said.
Police officials added that the victim’s daughter was admitted in the general ward of the hospital on February 1 and was later shifted to a private room on the first floor.
“On Thursday night, her husband had gone out for dinner and the victim, a Dalit, was alone with her daughter inside the private-room of the hospital. When she went out to fetch water, she was dragged inside a room by the medical assistant and raped,” senior superintendent of police Raghubir Lal said.
After the victim’s complaint, police arrested the accused, identified as Salim Mohammed. “The victim’s medical examination confirmed rape and the accused was arrested on Friday,” Lal said.
Hospital administrator Dr RB Bhardwaj said that the accused was terminated from his official duties after the incident came to light.
The accused was booked for rape and criminal intimidation charges under the IPC and also under the provisions of the SC/ST Act, police said.
