The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will roll out its 2016 housing scheme by Diwali, offering more than 12,000 flats this time.

A senior official in DDA on Thursday said the department was likely to announce its scheme in the first week of October.

A majority of the flats on offer are one-bedroom or lower income group (LIG) flats. These would mostly be located in Rohini, Dwarka, Narela, Vasant Kunj and Jasola. Almost all of them are old constructions.

Sources said around 10,000 flats that will be put up on offer this year were surrendered by allottees of the 2014 scheme. The rest of the flats had not been previously allotted for different reasons or cancelled.

Sources in DDA said that around 90 % of the flats are LIG while the rest would be two-room or middle income group (MIG) flats. There are no high income group flats this year, an official said.

Many allotees had surrendered their flats of the 2014 housing scheme, especially in outer Delhi areas such as Rohini, Dwarka, Narela.

“DDA will hold a meeting on September 23 in which senior officials of the department will be present. The final decision on the scheme will be taken then,” a senior DDA official said.

After a survey, the land development agency found that around 10,000 flats from last year’s scheme have not been occupied while another 2,000 flats were lying vacant.

Scheme to be online

DDA is likely to make the application process for this year’s housing schemes online. The step has been taken to make the process more transparent.

“The final decision will be taken in a meeting to be held in last week of September, but it is most likely that we will do way with the earlier process where people applied through demand drafts,” said a senior DDA official. Even the brochures this year can be downloaded online.

Increase of registration fees

Besides applying online, residents will have to pay more registration fee this time round. Unlike the last housing scheme, when aspirants paid `1 lakh as security deposit for registration, this year they will have to pay `3 lakh for LIG houses and `5 lakh for MIG houses.

“The step has been taken to do away with middlemen and invite only genuinely interested people,” an official said.
