The deadly cocktail of dense fog and speeding vehicles took the lives of three persons in separate road accidents in the city in the last 24 hours.

In the first incident, one member of a family was killed and two others were injured when a speeding truck hit their car in the Burari area of north Delhi on Friday night. The driver of the truck, Jai Singh, told the police that he could not see the car.

The deceased, Sunil Dutt (38), was returning home after attending a party in the Mukundpur area, along with his sister-in-law Jasbir Kaur (60) and her son Deepak. Dutt was driving. They were headed towards Burari from GT Karnal Road.

A passerby informed the police around 11. The three were rushed to Shushruta Trauma Centre, where Dutt succumbed to his injuries. The others are still undergoing treatment at the centre.

The deceased was a wholesale vegetable vendor and lived on Roshanara road in the Aryapura area.

In the second incident, a motorcyclist was crushed to death by an unknown vehicle in the Nangloi area of west Delhi on Friday night. The deceased, Gulshan Kumar (35), was a resident of H-Block in Mangolpuri and worked as a salesman.

The third incident was reported from the Vijay Vihar area of Outer Delhi on Saturday morning around 8.30 am. A speeding tractor ran over a 50-year-old cycle rickshaw-puller.

“It was a head-on collision between the tractor and a rickshaw. The tractor was being driven at a high-speed in the Begampur area even though the driver could not see much. Its trolley detached from the tractor suddenly, and after going out of control, it hit the rickshaw head-on. The rickshaw-puller received severe injuries and was taken to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital, where he was declared brought dead,” said a senior police officer.
