'Decision-making for Games faulty'

Shunglu, who met the PM for an informal briefing on Saturday, said his focus would be to review the government’s decision-making process, whose breakdowns led to humiliating delays in installing Games-related infrastructure.
Talking about his role for the first time, the former comptroller and auditor-general (CAG) said he would take charge on Monday. “There is a view that the decision-making process was not strong enough and therefore, the outcome was not as expected. The focus would be to review the whole process,” he said.
Shunglu said his probe would not duplicate the work of
multiple agencies, such as the CBI or the CAG, that are already engaged in unearthing alleged financial wrongdoings during the Games’ preparations.
“But findings of other probe agencies will feed into our probe,” he said.
The former CAG also said he would look into “whether the mechanisms put in place needed an upgrade,” for such major events as the Games.
