A 21-year-old woman working with an NGO has accused against her male friend, a medical student, of allegedly raping her on the pretext of marriage, police said on Thursday.

The woman filed a police complaint, on the basis of which an FIR was registered at west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar police station in the first week of June.

The Nihal Vihar police are looking for the accused, who reportedly is pursuing Bachelor in Dental Sciences (BDS) course from KB Dental College in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh, said the police.

According to a police officer, the victim had met the accused through a social networking website around two years ago. They were in a relationship and the accused had been allegedly exploiting the victim physically in the name of marriage.

“The victim, who is studying BA from Delhi University, told us that she had met the medical student, who lives in Mathura with his family, on a social networking site in April 2011. They used to chat with each other and soon became friends. They exchanged their phone numbers and entered into a serious relationship,” said the police officer, quoting the victim’s complaint.

According to the complaint, the accused established physical relations with the victim whenever he visited Delhi to meet her and promised to marry her soon.

The accused, the woman’s complaint said, had informally married her at a temple and was treating her as his wife.

The woman has alleged that the accused stopped talking to her and taking her calls from April this year. He even blocked her from the social networking site and switched off his phone.

“After registering the FIR, a team was sent to the accused’s house in Mathura but he could not be arrested. We are looking for him and he will be nabbed soon,” the senior officer added.
