A nine-year-old student of a prominent school in southwest Delhi was allegedly molested on campus by an employee of a publishing house that supplies books to the school.
The incident took place at St Thomas School in Chhawla near Dwarka on Monday. The girl, a student of Class 4, told her parents the accused had touched her inappropriately and they, in turn, brought it to the notice of the school authorities.
But the school denied the charge and took no action on the complaint for three whole days.
A criminal case was finally registered on Thursday after several parents called the police. The accused has been identified and will be arrested shortly, DCP (southwest) Suman Goyal said.
Alarmingly, at least three classmates of the girl have come forward to say they were also molested by the accused, police sources said, adding that their statements formed a major chunk of the investigation.
The school authorities did not respond to repeated attempts by Hindustan Times to get their side of the story.
“Today, we received a call that a group of parents had gathered outside the school. We learnt that a man who visited the school recently had touched a student inappropriately two days ago,” said DCP Goyal.
“According to the parents, the principal took no action on their complaint, so they lodged a complaint with us. On the basis of this, an FIR has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act,” he added.
