Delhi: AAP’s Uttam Nagar MLA Naresh Balyan arrested
A case was registered against Naresh Balyan or allegedly assaulting and threatening Henri George, a former AAP volunteer.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislator from Uttam Nagar, Naresh Balyan, was arrested on Friday in connection with a case registered against him and his supporters for allegedly assaulting and threatening Henri George, a former AAP volunteer and vice-president of Uttam Nagar’s K1 block Residents Welfare Association.
Sources said Balyan had not been released till late in the evening though the charges against him were bailable. Senior police officers confirmed that they will release Balyan after completing all legal formalities. The FIR against Balyan and his men was registered at the Uttam Nagar police station on Sunday.
A cross FIR was registered against George as well on a complaint filed by Balyan’s supporter Mahavir Fauji who accused George of assault and criminal intimidation. Police said George will also be arrested.
Deependra Pathak, joint commissioner of police (southwest) confirmed Balyan’s arrest.
George in his complaint told police that on Sunday afternoon, a meeting of RWA members was organised at their office under the chairmanship of president Trilok Chand. During the meeting, the AAP MLA along with Fauji arrived at the scene and allegedly hurled abuses at George and made religious remarks.
“When George protested, Balyan’s supporters beat him up. Their altercation was over Dussehra celebrations and civic work in their locality. George’s medical report confirmed that he had been assaulted. He filed a complaint and a case was registered,” said a senior police officer.
Later in the evening, the officer said, Fauji approached the police and lodged a complaint against Geroge in which he accused him of allegedly assaulting him and verbally abusing the MLA. Fauji alleged that he along with Balyan and Ram Kumar were passing by the RWA office when Geroge abused Balyan and assaulted him and Kumar with bricks and stones.
“The medical examination of Fauji and Kumar were done. On the basis of their medical reports and complaint, we registered a cross FIR against George,” the officer added.
“Their complaints were used verbatim in the FIRs,” said Pathak.
