A 24-year-old karate trainer, who is also reportedly an Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteer, was arrested on Saturday on the charges of repeatedly raping his student, filming the act and then circulating the video among his friends, police said.
The 23-year-old victim accused the karate instructor of blackmailing her by threatening to put the video on the internet.
The accused - Aftab Siddiqui, a black belt holder - was arrested by west Delhi’s Paschim Vihar police after the woman filed a case against him. The woman claimed that she was training under Siddiqui for the last few months at a judo karate centre in Meera Bagh area of west Delhi.
Delhi police officers said Siddiqui had claimed to be an active AAP volunteer with his laptop contains several videos and photographs confirming his association with AAP leaders. AAP, however, has dismissed this claim.
“This man is not associated with the party in any way. There is no proof of him being associated with AAP,” said a party spokesperson.
The Delhi unit of the BJP on Sunday also took on the AAP over the issue and alleged that Siddiqui was closely associated with Delhi health and power minister Satyendar Jain and AAP spokesperson Ashutosh.
“The ruling party, including chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and health minister Satyendar Jain, tried to pressurize the Paschim Vihar police to not register the FIR,” Vijender Gupta, leader of the opposition in Delhi Assembly said in a press conference.
A senior police officer said investigators have recovered Siddiqui’s laptop that contained the video that he blackmailed the girl with. The laptop has been sent to a forensic lab to examine the authenticity of the video.
