Body of a 21-year-old aspiring model, reported missing from his Karawal Nagar flat since Thursday, was found stuffed in bag at his friend’s rented house in east Delhi’s Mandawali area on Saturday.
Victim, Sumit Tiwary’s family has alleged that Tiwary was abducted by unknown persons and they had received two ransom calls, demanding Rs. 2 lakh.
A case of abduction was registered at the Karawal Nagar police station on the complaint by Tiwary’s father, Rameshwar Prasad Tiwary.
Tiwary’s body was found in the locked rented flat of his friend Shantideep Verma. Verma is reportedly a script writer, said police.
According to a senior police officer, the body’s location was traced by the police after they tracked down the location of the mobile phone from which the ransom call had been made.
Tiwary’s father had told the police that his son had left the house on Thursday morning for the shooting of a documentary near Akshardham Temple.
“At around 8 pm, an unidentified person called Tiwary’s father using his phone and claimed that he was in their custody. He demanded Rs. 2 lakh for his safe release.
"It was followed by another ransom call after which Tiwary’s mobile phone was switched off,” said a senior officer.
