One of the two men who allegedly murdering an elderly person at south Delhi’s Defence Colony on September 14 has been arrested.

DCP (south) Ishwar Singh said while scanning CCTV cameras near Choukani’s house, police saw two men entering the house on September 14. One of the men had worked for Choukani in the past .

The two had entered the house at 2. 08 pm and were inside for almost half an hour.

“After scanning around 150 cameras, we found that the men had come from Muzaffarnagar. CCTV footage showed that they had taken a train and a bus to reach Defence Colony via Shahdara, Kashmere Gate ISBT, Central Secretariat and Lajpat Nagar metro station. They used different buses and trains, “Singh said.

RC Choukani,73, was found murdered in his house by his daughter Kanu Priya. She had reported the theft of a video player, a laptop and two silver bricks from her father’s room.

Police said one of the men in the CCTV was identified as Rahul Kumar. Choukani’s family members told police Kumar was a former employee and quit four months ago.

“On Friday, we received a tip-off about Kumar visiting his house in Muzaffarnagar. Our team went there and arrested him from Phullar village. We recovered a video player, laptop and two silver bricks weighing five kilograms. The value of the bricks is around R 5 lakh,” said a senior officer.

Kumar told police he had murdered Choukani with the help of his friend Nikhil, who lives in the same village. Kumar said he was aware that Choukani was a rich man and planned to murder and rob him.

“Kumar was aware that the elderly man’s house had CCTV cameras inside so he stole the video player to ensure he was not caught. On the day of the incident, he along with Nikhil entered the house and strangled Choukani. We are looking for Nikhil,” said an officer.
