A Delhi Police inspector is facing arrest for allegedly molesting a gang-rape survivor whose case he was supervising.
The 25-year-old woman, who is from Karnataka, has registered an FIR against the inspector at Karawal Nagar police station in northeast Delhi, where he earlier served as station house officer.
She has accused him of molesting her repeatedly after drugging her and sending her vulgar messages, pictures and videos on her phone.
Delhi police commissioner BS Bassi confirmed on Friday he had ordered action against the inspector, who is presently with the Rashtrapati Bhavan security wing.
The FIR was registered on Bassi’s orders after he found that the woman had enough evidence to back her claims, police sources said. A senior officer added that she had submitted the pictures, texts and videos allegedly sent to her.
The woman had filed a gang-rape case against three men at Karawal Nagar station in June. “She has alleged that despite providing the identity and mobile numbers of the suspects, a female investigating officer took no action against them. In order to pursue her case, she started meeting the then SHO,” said the officer.
He molested her on several occasions after making her drink cold drinks spiked with sedatives,” he added.
The inspector was removed as SHO last month for non-action in a double murder case. Before that, in 2009-10, he had faced departmental action, a source said, “in a case in which a man was beaten up at the Welcome police station by five police personnel. The policemen had forced the victim’s mother to pay a bribe of R5,000 for his release”.
The assistant commissioner of police of Khajoori Khas sub-division has been tasked with investigating the molestation charge against the inspector.
