The son of a Delhi Police sub inspector was nabbed along with three others for reportedly robbing cars from people at gunpoint. A drug addict, he had roped in the other three unemployed men from his village to commit the crime.
The south district police arrested Ashish (18), Nagender (27), Madan (19) and Krishan (19). Ashish is the son of a policeman.
On February 13, the accused robbed a Wagon R car from Pitampura posing as loan recovery agents. The incident took place when businessman Vinod Mangla parked his car on the roadside and went to a temple, leaving behind his 12-year-old son in the vehicle.
“The two accused approached the child and forced his son to get out of the car. They told him that they were loan recovery agents and his father had defaulted on one of the installments,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).
Police said two days later, the accused stopped an Accent car on Main Rohtak Road. They abandoned the driver near a canal and robbed him of his mobile phones, gold chain and Rs 18,000.
The gang had also robbed an auto rickshaw at gunpoint in Rohini Sector-3 on February 17 after firing at a police party.
Police recovered three mobile phones, the looted Wagon R Car and a country-made weapon from their possession. The accused were arrested from Vasant Kunj on Thursday when they were planning to rob a CNG pump on Nelson Mandela Road.
