A 17-year-old girl shot herself in the head with her father’s revolver when her boyfriend refused to continue their relationship, on Saturday afternoon in Kondli area of east Delhi.
The police said parents of both the boy and the girl had met at a secluded place in Mayur Vihar Phase-III and asked them to concentrate on studies rather than get into a relationship when the incident occurred.
After she came to know that her boyfriend wanted to discontinue the affair, she rushed to her father’s car parked nearby, took out the revolver and shot herself. She was rushed to Metro Hospital in Noida where her condition is said to be critical.
The girl, a resident of Noida, is in Class XII and was in a relationship with the 19-year-old boy for the last two years.
Both were in the same school till the boy dropped out. He lives in Khoda colony in Ghaziabad and works as a property dealer.
The police said the girl’s father, also a property dealer, was against the affair. “The boy agreed to end the relationship and expressed his inability to marry her. This infuriated the girl. She took the pistol from the dashboard of the car and shot herself on her right temple,” said a senior police officer.
The incident occurred near Smriti Van in Mayur Vihar around noon on Saturday. "We are questioning the boy to know the exact sequence of events. We will take action only after the picture is clearer," said the officer.
Though no case was registered till late in the evening, the Ashok Nagar police in east Delhi were contemplating to register a case of attempt to suicide against the victim. "The bullet pierced her head and came out from the other side. She had to undergo a surgery. The chances of her survival are slim," said Dr Ajay Purung, administrator at Metro Hospital, Noida.
Investigations are on. Family members of the two could not be reached for comments.
