Two women employees working with the Delhi government’s integrated child development services (ICDS) have alleged sexual harassment by a senior official of the women and child welfare department.

There are approximately 95 ICDS projects being run in the city in approximately 11,000 anganwadi centres. The department committee against sexual harassment is looking into the matter.

“We have received a complaint regarding a child development project officer and we immediately transferred him from that area. A report will be completed in 15 days and if found guilty, we will dismiss him. We had first received one complaint regarding sexual harassment and later another woman from the same ICDS complained about him,” said Kiran Walia, minister of women and child welfare department.

According to the committee member, the employees have alleged that the officer used to pass lewd remarks on them. “Most of the workers at the Anganwadi are women, be it the supervisors or helpers. They had complained that the officer used to harass them. The report of the committee should be out soon. For the time being, we have transferred him to another place as women were feeling threatened by him,” said a senior Delhi government official.

The statements of the women employees are being recorded by the committee at the Nirmal Chhaya Complex, Jail Road. The officer was transferred on February 11. According to the officials, if the need arises, the matter will reported to the Delhi Police.
