Chief minister Sheila Dikshit on Wednesday launched Delhi government’s calendar for year 2012.
Titled ‘Enduring Delhi: Early Photography in the Capital’, the calendar takes one on a journey of the last 100 years of the city. The calendar features 12 photographs of the city taken during the early era of photography.
The photographs showcase local, state and European photographers who travelled to the city over 100 years ago. The images showcase photographers such as Bourne and Shepherd and Vernon and Co. that were established in Delhi at that time.
“This is an unusual calendar that integrates history with the calendar. The calendar has been produced in a year when Delhi completes 100 years of its re-emergence as the Capital of India. The photographs depict a long history of 100 years - rise of British era and life of people in and around Chandni Chowk during those days. This also reminds one of Delhi’s glory and it being one of the most important cities in the world,” said Dikshit.
