Under attack following the 22 % hike in power tariff, Delhi government on Tuesday ordered a thorough scrutiny of the accounts of the three private discoms by the Comptroller and Auditor General since financial year 2007-08.

Alleging discrepancies in the accounts of the discoms, the opposition BJP as well as a section of the Congress have been demanding an audit of the accounts of Anil Ambani group distribution company BSES and Tata-backed NDPL.

Power regulator Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), while announcing the increase in tariff last month, had also recommended a CAG audit of the accounts of the discoms.

The decision to recommend the CAG audit of the discoms was taken at a high level meeting attended by chief minister Sheila Dikshit, power minister Harun Yusuf and top officials of power department.

The recent DERC order recommending CAG audit of the private discoms for certain financial years was examined and accordingly government has agreed to occasionally conduct the CAG audit of the accounts of the discoms, officials said.

The DERC had advised the government to get accounts of BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, BSES Yamuna Power Ltd and NDPL audited by CAG for atleast the last three financial years --2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10.
