Delhi hit and run

A speeding BMW car mowed down a scooter, throwing off two men travelling on the two-wheeler and injuring them critically near Nehru Place in southeast Delhi on Sunday night.

Witnesses said there were three people in the BMW, including a woman, and a youngster was at the wheel. They were reportedly drunk and ran away from the scene.

A case of rash and negligent driving has been registered but no one was arrested. The occupants of the BMW have been identified as a university student and two of his friends.

Police said 31-year-old Manoj and Dhoni, a year older, were admitted to hospital with grave injuries.

“The BMW was heading towards Nehru Place when they hit the scooter from behind. The car was speeding and the driver lost control on impact. It skidded a few metres before ramming into a wall and coming to a halt. The occupants of the car saw the two injured men but fled the spot, leaving the car behind,” an officer said. “Arrests will be made soon.”
