The constable found dead outside his car last week was allegedly killed by three of his friends, one of whom he had sexually assaulted on a regular basis, police said.

The police on Tuesday arrested three people — Sumit Dabas (22), Naveen (21) and Amit (20) — in connection with the crime. They were all constable Sandeep Kumar’s friends.

On Saturday morning, the police control room received information about an accident on Nangal Road in Bawana. A police team on reaching the spot found Sandeep’s body outside his SX4 car.

The parking lights of the vehicle were switched on while there were blood stains on the bonnet and both sides of the car.

The police later identified the body as that of Sandeep (35) who was posted with the security unit. During investigation, the police learnt that Sandeep was last seen with three men outside a dhaba in Kanjhawala.

During investigation, it was found that one of the men was Sumit, DCP (outer) Vikramjit said.

“Sumit was found missing from his house. We learnt that Sumit was last seen with his friends Amit and Naveen. All three of them were missing from their homes. On Monday, we received information that Amit was hiding at a flat in Rohini, sector 1. We raided the place and arrested him. On his instance, we traced his two associates,” said Vikramjit.

During interrogation, the three men claimed Sandeep was gay and had been sexually exploiting one of the accused for a while. Another accused claimed Sandeep was trying to develop a physical relationship with him, police said.

The third accused reportedly told the police that Sandeep had been eyeing his sister for some time.

The three told the police that on the night of the incident the three and Sandeep met at a dhaba and had a few drinks. “Sandeep was already drunk and was asking for more liquor. After consuming more liquor, they drove to an isolated spot and beat him to death,” DCP Vikramjit said.

Investigation revealed that Sandeep’s wife had left him just weeks after his marriage. He had been inducted into Delhi Police on compassionate ground after his father’s death five years ago.
