It was a super Sunday for the Aam Aadmi Party with party MLAs, including Delhi ministers, hitting the streets to hold mass contact programme with voters in their respective constituencies before the municipal elections.
The AAP leaders decided to reach out to the public after instruction from party’s national convener Arvind Kejriwal two days ago. Kejriwal has directed all Delhi MLAs to embark on door-to-door campaigns across Delhi with party candidates for the municipal polls in their respective areas.
“Besides doing padyatras and door-to-door campaigns, the party legislators also met volunteers, addressed corner meetings and in some cases inaugurated party election offices,” an AAP member, coordinating the party campaign, said.
While the Congress and BJP are still to finalises their list of candidates for the upcoming municipal polls, the AAP has already announced candidates for 248 of the 272 municipal seats.
The AAP candidates have already started campaigning on the ground, taking home the message of AAP national convener Kejriwal, besides highlighting the good work done by the government in the past two years.
Party leaders said MLAs and candidates will hold such mass contact activity every evening from now on. The party will also be assessing the performance of the contact programme and changes will be made accordingly.
“Similar assessments are being done for projector shows that are playing Arvind Kejriwal’s message to the people of Delhi,” the AAP member said .
The party plans to reach out to around 46 lakh households in the city through the programme. The entire exercise is expected to be completed by the first week of April.
