Acting on a complaint from a minor girl against her mother, the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) helped in getting three people arrested for allegedly forcing another 17-year-old girl into prostitution and marriage.

Recently, the commission was approached by a minor girl, who came with an NGO representative. The girl said her mother had forced another minor girl into prostitution and later married her off to a middle-aged man.

The complainant with the help of the NGO rescued the minor girl from where she was married and approached DCW. “The commission sent a team with the girl to get an FIR registered at the police station concerned. An FIR was registered and three people were arrested in this case. It later came to light that the rescued girl was one month pregnant,” the commission said.

DCW officials said the accused woman’s daughter, who herself is a minor, was aware of these facts and she showed extra ordinary courage in saving the minor.

“The accused woman’s daughter in order to save the minor girl reached the house in Chandni Chowk where the girl was married off,” said an official.

The rescued girl told the team members of DCW that she had arrived at the New Delhi railway station from Uttar Pradesh, a few days ago looking for a job. She said that her parents had died and her little brother suffers from epileptic seizures.

She said she met the accused woman and one other man when she reached the railway station. “They assured her of a job and took her with them. She was kept at Delhi’s Maujpur area where she was forced into prostitution. A few days later she was forcefully married to a 40-year-old middle-aged man from Chandni Chowk,” DCW officials said.

The accused woman’s daughter said she was aware that her mother pushes people into prostitution and has been arrested before in this case.
