In a major decision, Delhi MLAs will get Rs 25 lakh each instead of Rs 10 lakh from next fiscal for works executed by them in their constituency through the District Development Committees (DDCs).
This was decided on Thursday at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
The Delhi Assembly has a strength of 70.
The Chief Minister also directed a series of steps to strengthen functioning of the almost defunct DDCs which were set up with the aim to accelerate the pace of development at grass-root level in the city.
Dikshit said that the DDCs constituted in 1999 as apex bodies to review plan works at district level should meet regularly and an effective review mechanism should be formulated, a senior official said.
"It was decided to convene monthly meeting on regular basis on every last Saturday of the month for which agenda papers will be circulated at beginning of the month.
"It was also decided that a quarterly review meeting by the Heads of Department and other top officers will be convened to evaluate benefits acquiring from the decisions of the DDCs," he added.
Dikshit also stated that the DDCs must work to overcome delay in execution of plans and work in order to coordinate developmental activities at district level.
