A Class 12 student killed herself at her Naraina home in southwest Delhi on Thursday, two days after she filed a molestation case against a neighbour who was harassing her to marry him, police said.
A student of a government school, the 19-year-old hanged herself from a ceiling fan at her home, police said, adding she was depressed.
Two days ago, the girl had filed a case of molestation against Subhash Yadav, who was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail. Yadav forced his way into her room late Monday and molested her, she told the police. He tried to strangle her with the cord of her mobile phone when she turned down his marriage proposal, the complaint said.
“…I am committing suicide because of Subhash Yadav, his friend Anil and his father Ram Kishore Yadav. They mentally harassed me and humiliated me … Sorry, mummy and papa, I couldn’t fulfil your dreams,” reads the suicide note left behind by her.
Ram Kishore, who owns a small transport business, and Anil were allegedly pressuring the girl and her family to withdraw the case against Subhash, sources said.
On Thursday, the girl went to school and spoke about the harassment to her teachers, who called her parents. When the parents reached the school, the girl had left for home.
“Her parents found her room locked. They broke open the door and found their daughter hanging,” a police officer said. A case of abetment to suicide has been filed. The suicide note would be sent for forensic tests, DCP (southwest) Suman Goyal said.
