The Delhi Police is likely to register a case of sedition against leader of the hard line faction of the Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani, writer Arundhati Roy, and others, who had spoken at a seminar here last week.

“We are seeking legal opinion on the nature of cases to be registered in this regard. Once we receive the report we will register a case,” said VA Gupta, additional deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi). Police is most likely to get the legal report on Monday. The home ministry had asked the Delhi police to seek legal opinion.

Police said they had made provisions to videotape the proceedings at the seminar and had the videotapes with them.

“We have studied the videotapes and have sent it to our legal team,” said a police officer.

Police also said they have received separate complaints against Geelani and other for disrespecting the Indian flag. A complaint regarding the desecration of the nation flag was received at the Tilak Marg police station. No case has been registered in the matter yet.
