The Delhi Police are looking for a gang of carjackers who have duped people and robbed two luxury cars in the last four days.

While the assailants in their first successful attempt robbed a Hyundai Verna car at gunpoint, they cheated four college students of their friend’s Honda Civic car by posing as recovery agents in the second case.

According to a senior police officer, the latest incident was reported from east Delhi’s Anand Vihar area where a person posing as a recovery agent of a finance company fled with a Honda Civic car by duping four students.

Manoj Rawat, the complainant, told police that he along with his three friends had gone to Vivekanand Public School for some admission related work in their friend Ayush’s car on Monday.

“A man, aged around 30 years, identified himself as Sunil, an agent of a Jhandewalan-based finance company, and asked Rawat to show the car documents, which the latter didn’t have. The man told Rawat that the car was financed by the company he works for and that he has been asked to impound the vehicle because of non payment of installments,” said the officer.

They were in for a surprise later when Ayush told them that his car was not financed by that company. A case in this regard has been registered at the Anand Vihar police station.

The previous carjacking incident, committed probably by the same gang, was reported from south Delhi’s Hauz Khas, where they robbed a Verna car after holding a guard at gunpoint outside a bungalow.

“The car belonged to one Vipin Gupta and the assailants posed as employees of a finance company. They fled with the car after telling the guard, Abhimanyu, that they were taking the car away due to non payment of instalments.

The assailants also pointed a pistol at Abhimanyu, when he tried to stop them,” added the officer.
